One day in Vlasotince

Our suggested walk from the fountain in the centre to the embankment on the Vlasina. The museum and Gigina kuća are open on weekdays from 7 to 15 h.

The order is our suggestion, and the opening hours are the ones the Tourist Organisation publishes. Check them before you set off.

  1. Morning

    The “at the four lions” fountain

    Town centre

    A memorial fountain in the town centre; the Tourist Organisation calls it the memorial fountain to the fighters who fell for freedom and unification (1809-1918). The town sightseeing tour that the organisation leads also starts here.

  2. Late morning

    Local History Museum “Turska kula” (Turkish Tower)

    AVNOJ-a 1 · weekdays from 7 to 15 h · free entry

    The only building from the Turkish period in the town, standing on the remains of a Roman castrum. It houses the Collection of Old Serbian Prints.

  3. Midday

    Gigina kuća (Gigi’s House)

    Ive Lole Ribara 2 · weekdays from 7 to 15 h · free entry

    A town house from 1850, which today houses the “Desanka Maksimović” library. Here you can leaf through the newspaper “Vlasina” from 1926. It is best to let them know you are coming.

  4. On the way

    Town church

    Njegoševa 63

    A church painted in 1894; according to the Tourist Organisation, it was built in 1858. East of it is the old cemetery with more than seventy stone monuments from the 19th century.

  5. Afternoon

    Popović Mill and Čarobna dolina (Magic Valley)

    The mill from 1895, then, by the town lake, the mini canyon of the Stanci stream and waterfalls up to 10 metres. The easier trail is for all ages.

  6. Evening

    Nešić Embankment

    Along the Vlasina

    A walk by the river. In 2019 the embankment was decorated with the murals “Sinovi vlasotinački” (Sons of Vlasotince). For dinner, see the list of restaurants kept by the Tourist Organisation.
